From Placemat to Handbag

Placemat: Hello, I'm a pretty green-striped placemat and I am on clearance. You know you want to make something out of me!

Vintage Ribbon: I am really bored just sitting in this box. Hey, that placemat over there has green stripes the same color as my embroidered flowers!

Placemat: If you fold me over I look like a bag, whee!

Bamboo Purse Handle: Can I join the party?

AND BY OUR POWERS COMBINED, WE ARE... *poof!* A HANDBAG!

  1. This is really clever, i like it more as a bag than a placemat

  2. I have a lot more of these placemats, including some in pink and white... if you want to make your own bag. :) Only took one placemat for this bag.

  3. I got a good book on using placemats and other things at Sew Expo...

  4. Oh hey I have that book! I haven't found it to be very useful though, at least not in the sense of showing me something I would want to make. I made this placemat BEFORE I got that book, and I haven't made anything in the book. I think it has cute ideas, but... would I ever make or use them? Probably not. HOWEVER - that book does make you look at stuff in the kitchen and tablewear aisles more closely and think about how you might make something completely unrelated out of them. So it's definately useful in a sense that it can get your creative gears turning.
